Innsbrook is a place where our owners and guests leave everyday stresses of life behind when they enter the gates – which may be the opposite of what most might expect when embarking on a complete home renovation. Nestled within the dense Missouri hardwoods of Innsbrook Resort lies chalet #229, an a-frame with a story constructed through the years. Originally built in 1978 and purchased by the current owner in May 2022, the journey of this rustic retreat represents not just a homecoming for its owner but a re-imagination of tradition. We sat down with the homeowner to learn more about the narrative of their home remodeling journey with Innsbrook Custom Homes and Construction, unveiling the essence of their vision and the meticulous process that brought it to life.
“I’d been away from Innsbrook for five years and decided it was time to get back to the community,” shared the homeowner. “I reached out to my friend, Innsbrook Properties agent Dan Dieckmann, and we found the perfect place. Coming back to Innsbrook, I made the conscious decision to purchase a seasoned chalet on a large lot in what is now referred to as ‘old Innsbrook’.”
For the owner, the attraction of an a-frame set amid the towering oaks held an irresistible charm. It wasn’t just about purchasing a property, but rather reclaiming a piece of Innsbrook history and embarking on a new chapter steeped in nostalgia.
The vision for Chalet 229 was clear from the beginning – a complete transformation that embodies the essence of a traditional a-frame with updated modern comforts. “I’d always wanted to take an old chalet and do a complete transformation, while keeping the old cabin vibe,” the homeowner explained.
Initiating a remodel can be daunting, but it was a seamless process for #229. With Innsbrook Custom Homes and Construction at the helm, every aspect of the project was executed with precision and expertise. Luke Miesner, Remodeling Manager at Innsbrook Custom Homes and Construction, manages most remodeling projects at Innsbrook, and with his guidance, the project took shape effortlessly. “Working with Luke was both easy and fun,” the homeowner recalled, reflecting on the collaborative effort that brought their vision to fruition, “and, as they say, the rest is history.”
Inspired by eclectic design concepts, the remodel was envisioned as a blend of contemporary aesthetics and rustic charm. From wide-plank flooring to painted bead-board walls, to custom kitchen cabinets and solid surface countertops, every element was carefully curated to preserve the spirit of the past while embracing modern living in the heart of nature.
“What was most important to me for this remodel was literally ‘thinking outside the box’,” emphasized the homeowner. The desire to go against traditional a-frame layouts led to the creation of an open floor plan that seamlessly integrates different living spaces. The addition of the sunroom sparked the idea of a kitchen/dining/living space, redefining the concept of modern living within the walls of an a-frame.
During the extensive home remodeling project, several rooms underwent significant transformations. The former kitchen was reimagined into a cozy dining area, while the original dining space was expanded and revamped into a spacious, modern kitchen, offering ample room culinary exploration and gatherings.
A striking addition to the home came in the form of a four-season room, replacing a substantial portion of the deck, providing a versatile space for relaxation and entertainment throughout the year. Additionally, the main floor bedroom was divided into two separate bedrooms, enhancing privacy and functionality. The main floor bathroom was completely reconstructed and expanded, resulting in a more appealing and accommodating space.
Notably, the staircase leading to the second level was repositioned, offering a new flow to the home's layout. Upstairs, the original open loft was sectioned into a landing area, two bedrooms, and an additional full bathroom, optimizing the use of space while maintaining comfort and style throughout the home. “All of the new spaces are great for entertaining, but many of the spaces are perfect for a quiet, solo day at Innsbrook,” explained the homeowner. “Essentially, the finished chalet feels like a well-curated home, snuck into an a-frame. The result is pretty awesome.”
While no project is without its challenges, the remodel of Chalet 229 was remarkably obstacle-free. "No hiccups," the homeowner affirmed, attributing the smooth process to thorough planning and attention to detail lead by Meisner and his team of professionals.
In the realm of home remodels, it's not just about transforming spaces; it's about breathing new life into a house steeped with tradition, and embracing the beauty of reinvention. In the heart of Innsbrook's first development of a-frames, Chalet 229 serves as an inspiring example of what can be achieved when creativity meets craftsmanship. Top of Form
"Now that the remodel is complete, what do you like best about your home?" The homeowner's response was simple yet profound: "Everything."
