2022 Irrigation Blackflow & Prevention Inspection
What follows is our annual reminder regarding your irrigation system—if you have one. If you do not, you may disregard the below information.
One of our requirements as a permitted water provider is to verify and document that all of our water connections are safe and secure. This includes the connection between the water service line and individual irrigation systems. There is a piece of equipment installed with your irrigation system called a Backflow Prevention Device. It prevents contaminants from being siphoned into your home or into the water distribution system.
The Department of Natural Resources requires that this device be tested once a year by a certified backflow inspector and that the proof of testing be submitted to the Water Supplier. That would be us—Innsbrook Utilities. Also, they require us to disconnect users who do not supply the test results.
If you have an irrigation system, please make arrangements to have the backflow prevention device inspected by a licensed backflow inspector this year and a copy forwarded to Greg Nissing at the Innsbrook Utilities Dept. The above is necessary even if you do not currently use your irrigation system. As long as it is still hooked up to the water system, the test is required.
Your installer is normally capable of this test, and it is usually done as part of the Spring start-up procedure or within 30 days of the date the device was originally installed. The Innsbrook Services department can also perform the test, if you prefer. You can call Services at ext. 9151 to arrange for a startup and inspection.
Please note that inspectors are required to provide you with a copy of the test report. We suggest that you keep a copy of this report in your files.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call Greg Nissing at 636.928.3366, ext. 9231.
